SOFTBALL PROGRAMS
Kindergarten: Co-Ed Tee-Ball
The goal at this entry level is to have fun and learn while building fundamental baseball & softball skills and practicing safely. We incorporate a mix of practices, games, clinics, and encourage high activity with lots of repetitions so the players learn fielding, throwing, hitting, and running.
It’s not just the players who are learning the game - a lot of coaches will be new too. DSYBS helps our coaches get started with various coaching resources, and we encourage creativity and energy to keep it moving and fun. We don’t keep score or use umpires at this level and tees are used throughout the season.
Grades 1 and 2: Beginner League Softball
At this level the focus is on building skills and expanding upon the fundamentals and most importantly on just having fun! Season will begin with one weekly practice with modified games to be played starting midseason. This league will be coached by parents with some potential clinics from some experts.
The schedule will likely be Saturdays from 10:45-12:15 but may vary depending on availability.
Grades 3 to 5: Junior League Softball
At this level ASA\USA Softball Rules are modified. Games are player pitched unless a walk occurs. After four balls the strike count continues, a coach comes in to pitch, and the at-bat is completed with a batted ball or a strikeout. There are limited steals allowed per inning and stealing home is not permitted. These and the additional rule changes all are intended to improve the speed of play and create games that are fair and balanced. There will be two to three games per week in addition to one weekly practice.
Games and practices will likely be held Tuesdays and Thursdays in the evenings and Saturdays and Sundays in the afternoon. Actual schedule may vary depending on field availability.
Grades 6 to 8: Senior League Softball
At this competitive level, all ASA\USA Softball rules apply. All players graduating to the Senior League must attend Evaluation Day. This is not a tryout. All grade eligible players will be placed on a team in accordance with the DSYBS Draft Policy. Returning senior players are not required to attend evaluations. Creating competitive teams will be the priority. The schedule consists of mostly two to three games per week and one practice weekly.
Games and practices will be held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the evenings and Saturdays in the afternoon. Actual schedule may vary depending on field availability.
