BASEBALL PROGRAMS

Kindergarten: Co-Ed Tee-Ball

The goal at this entry level is to have fun and learn while building fundamental baseball & softball skills and practicing safely. We incorporate a mix of practices, games, clinics, and encourage high activity with lots of repetitions so the players learn fielding, throwing, hitting, and running.

It’s not just the players who are learning the game - a lot of coaches will be new too.  DSYBS helps our coaches get started with various coaching resources, and we encourage creativity and energy to keep it moving and fun.  We don’t keep score or use umpires at this level and tees are used throughout the season.

Grade 1: Instructional Farm League Baseball
Players at this level are taught the basics of baseball with coaches pitching and every player participating in the field.   Practice/games are once per week.  The first 45 minutes is dedicated to instruction, the last 45 minutes is a game (generally two innings).  No score is kept, no outs are recorded, and every player gets a chance to hit each inning.  Players are assigned to teams randomly.

Grade 2: Minors A League Baseball
At this level, players move from coaches pitching and, by mid-season, players getting a chance to pitch for the first time to live batters.  Practice/games are twice a week, no score is kept, and outs are recorded.  An inning is 3 outs or each player getting a chance to bat - whichever happens first. The emphasis is still on teaching fundamentals and helping each player develop confidence.  Players are assigned to teams randomly.

Grade 3: Minors AA League Baseball
This is a major transition year and the first year of competitive baseball where score is kept.  Team standings (with wins and losses) are tracked, kids pitch and catch, there are 10 players in the field, and balls and strikes are called (5 balls, 3 strikes).   All teams qualify for the playoffs and winners get a chance to play on Championship Day! Players are selected for teams using a pre-season evaluation for equally distributed teams. Players are selected for teams using the DSYBS Draft Policy. Depending on numbers, teams may participate in games vs. local towns.

Grade 4: Minors AAA League Baseball
All 4th graders will play in the Minors AAA division along with some 5th graders.  AAA League adheres to all Little League Baseball rules with some slight modifications. Players are selected for teams using a pre-season evaluation in accordance with the DSYBS Draft Policy. Depending on participant numbers, teams may participate in games vs. local towns.

Grade 5: Minors AAA or Majors Baseball
5th graders will be placed into the appropriate league for their playing level based based on a pre-season evaluation.

Option 1 - Minors AAA Baseball:  The AAA division adheres to all Little League Baseball rules with some slight modifications. Players are selected for teams using a pre-season evaluation in accordance with the DSYBS Draft Policy. Depending on participant numbers, teams may participate in games vs. local towns.

Option 2 - Majors Baseball:  The Majors division adheres to all Little League Baseball rules. Players will be assigned to balanced teams based on preseason evaluations in accordance with the DSYBS Draft Policy.  Depending on registration and team numbers, teams may participate in games vs. local towns.

Grade 6: Majors Baseball
All 6th graders will play in the Majors division. Majors adheres to all Little League Baseball rules. Players will be assigned to balanced teams based on preseason evaluations in accordance with the DSYBS Draft Policy.  Depending on registration and team numbers, teams may participate in games vs. local towns.

Ages 13 to 16: Junior\Senior League Baseball

Play on the MLB sized diamond!  All the MLB rules with 60’6” pitching and 90’ base paths.  This is the same size field as middle school, high school, college and pros. The league will consist of 13 – 16 year old players and may be divided into older and younger divisions dependent on enrollment.  This is a travel program with an end-of-season tournament opportunity. If you are playing middle school baseball, this is the league for you. Players achieve the age of 13 on or after August 31 of the year of play (current year) and are no older than the age of 16 on or prior to April 30 of the next year. Players are selected for teams using a pre-season evaluation and in accordance with the DSYBS Draft Policy.
